I remember when I first started attending university in Canada, it was the first time I was away from family. It was tough to balance school and work but I managed to overcome those hardships. However, there were times when I missed my family so badly.
It was music, or to be specific, BTS songs that encouraged me to keep going and believe in myself. You may have heard about BTS on social media as they have been very popular lately. Not only Twitter and Youtube, BTS also appeared and won on some U.S music awards shows like AMAs.
Many people may wonder: Why has this group from Korea become so popular? I hope I can answer that question with these following reasons on why I believe BTS has been so successful:
Uniqueness
Normally, when a Kpop band first debuts, they need to have a specific concept that the company has prepared for them. Artists have no or very few opinions on the image they want the public to remember.
Yet for BTS, they have created the group’s concept together with the company. In addition, the band also participates in creating its own style of music. That’s why everytime BTS releases a new song, the fans fall in love with them all over again as the songs are never the same.
Let’s take BTS’s latest song, IDOL, as an example. The song is interesting because it combines EDM with traditional music. When I first listen to IDOL, I did not feel like it was going to be on my playlist to be honest. But now, I cannot get the song out of my mind.
Confidence
Another thing that makes me love BTS is their confidence. Before becoming successful as we can see today, they have been through a lot of hardships. They had a financial burden at the beginning where they could not get support from their parents as well as their company was small at the time. They were hated for being different, or threatened for no reason.
Some may have thought with all of those reasons, BTS would have collapsed. Still, they have been keeping their heads high. They prove their talents and love for music through hard work, just so they can prove they are worthy to be loved.
Love
If you are a fan of BTS, you will be inspired by how much they love music. It is the energy and dedication they have for every song, every performance that makes so many people to fall in love with them.
Still, BTS does not keep the love for themselves. They try to spread love to everyone. In another words, BTS has been using their platform to address social problems including mental health, bullying, unfairness and hate. They have been trying to replace negativity with positivity by encouraging everyone to follow their dreams and live their fullest life.
For example, their song NOT TODAY and Fire are about encouraging youth to chase their dreams, to believe in themselves when facing hardships. In another song, Spring Day, BTS express their pain for the loss of lives in the Sewol tragedy.
Just like whenever you see someone doing something with all their heart, it can become inspirational. This is why BTS is now an inspiration of many people all over the world.
It is true that music has always brought us comfort. It has a special power to help people overcome their lonely moments, like mine when I first started school. Thanks to music and BTS, I have found joy and motivation in this new life in Canada.
That explains why everytime I feel down, I will go listen to BTS songs. It is the comfort in their music that makes me feel I can follow my dreams. What about you? Why do you think that BTS is so famous? Let’s share your experiences.
