The College Student Alliance (CSA) proposes five ways to improve Ontario post-secondary education system

TORONTO, ON, September 30 - The CSA has made five recommendations regarding the preparation of the 2017 Ontario Budget for post-secondary education. The purpose is to help students’ daily life become easier.

These recommendations focus on increased access to post-secondary for
Indigenous students, cost savings for educational resources, reduced financial barriers
for international students and social returns through students increased ability to make
informed decisions.
The five recommendations include:
Create an online book project for the 40 most popular college programs to strenthen accessibility by lowering the cost of education.
Do not count Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP) funds as income in OSAP’s needs assessment process.
Incrementally reduce the International Student Recovery fee (ISR) by $75 per year.
Create a web-based centralized data-hub in areas such as admission, student experience, and labour market information to support evidence-based decision making.
Remove Canadian citizenship requirements from Aboriginal Student Bursary eligibility criteria.
“Education should be accessible and fair to all students,” said Joel Willett, president of the CSA. “We hope that by adopting our recommendations, you will be strengthening Ontario’s post-secondary education system while growing the province’s highly skilled workforce.
The CSA will continue to work with the Ministry of Finance to make every day life easier for students.
